Programs
The Woodburn Police Department implemented a K-9 program in 2002. The department currently has two K-9 officer/dog teams that work in the Operations Division. Our K-9 officers receive specialized training in handling and caring for a police K9.
Canines have a tremendous value to our community. Given their keen sense of smell, they are able to locate people who have committed serious crimes that a police officer otherwise may not find.
The canines are also trained to protect their handlers which helps improve officer safety for the handlers, other police officers and the community.
Generous donations from our community have continued to support this important program. Anyone interested in donating to the “Lavelle Black Police K9 Trust Fund” can contact the Chief’s Office for more information
